career counselling career guidanceTher question that each one of us faces after important milestones in education is What next after class 10th, class 12th and even after Graduation.
Career Counselling is a common and popular term in today’s world. Career Counselling means guiding a person to make the right decision in choosing a career. Also, it is a professional term. It is based on the judgement and analysis of a few factors. These are a person’s personality, behaviour, and interests. So, a qualified career counsellor first studies a person thoroughly. Then he or she suggests the best options for him or her. Besides, there might be some psychometric tests involved. These tests help a career counsellor to understand the person’s personality.
You need an expert to understand all the above important points. So we all should go take our career counselling to get the best out of it. It is like when we get ill, we visit the doctor for advice same way career decision are to be taken with thorough understanding.
When students get advice from parents or others they are not convinced because the information may not be adequate and to the understanding of the student. An expert career counsellor will be able to tell the personality, career interest, career motivators, learning style and the skills and abilities of the student. They will be able to analyse the career options based on the psychometric result if the student and explain to the student and parent why a career choice is suitable to the student or why it should be avoided. There will be clarity for them to make a correct choice.
A career counselor would ve analysed the pros and cons in every aspect that are pertaining to each client. Each client and each student s capabilities are different. Each individual has different aspirations. And a lot of students today, are influenced with what they see around than what they want to achieve and hence are lot more confused. They would like to get into a path which most of their known people are following and are successful themselves. They least anticipate the risks and struggles involved in achieving the same. The counselor is the right person to contact. He/she would give proepr timely guidance to overcome hurdles and also discuss the best possible career path and clusters that are best suited.
Based on the advice given by the career counsellor, you decide your career path. So, it becomes imperative that career counselling is done by a seasoned expert who has got a sound knowledge about that particular field. A piece of good or bad advice can have a major impact on your career.
A trained and expert career counsellor can make your career decisions very easy.
I consider career counsellors role to that of a Doctor .Like what a qualified doctor does is to talk to u patiently, understand your pain points ,probes further on the short term and long term implications of all that the patient has to say and based on all that either recommends a test for diagnosis followed by a remedy or otherwise offer a suitable remedy rightaway.
An expert career counsellor acts like a doctor ....she understands your core values /skills /interest /aptitude .....your choice or selection of a preferred career path ....analyses the possibilities ,implications, and last but not the least suggests you alternatives,or mentors you to tread that path of your choice.
Remember ,career is not something "one size firs all".Each individual is unique and should be guided in a unique ,customused way to acheive their career goals.
Hence consulting an expert career counsellor can save a lot of time and frustration in later years of life.
Hope that helps!!!
